Storyline

Announcement

Janeway has been tracked to the Guardian of Forever. Gathered there as well are three less than friendly factions demanding action regarding the timeline shifting. [1]

Prologue

  • Drafted McCoy: "Appears Captain Janeway's made her way to the Guardian of Forever, but something's off about the way she's acting. I've got my own theories, but thinking won't do a lick of good. We need to bring her in for medical evaluation."
  • Determined Janeway: "I don't need a medical evaluation, I'm right where I need to be. Leave me alone, I have to fix this. I can't let things end up like this. I couldn't make it right then, let me make it right now."
  • Resolute Chakotay: "Too late, she's gone through. I should have listened to her when she reached out to me. Said she was hearing voices in the night. Sometimes they were voices she thought might have been the Collective, other times, they were the voices of crew we lost in the Delta Quadrant."
  • Jett Reno: "We can sit around, speculate, and play the shoulda-woulda game later. Right now, we need to get Captain Janeway back. We've already got Romulans, Terrans, and Borg drones crawling all over this place who want a shot at Janeway and the Guardian. We need to end this and fast!"

Intermission

  • Determined Janeway: "It's gone... we can't go back... but they're coming.... they're here...."
  • Resolute Chakotay: "Captain--no, Kathryn--snap out of it. You've got to tell us what's going on! What's brought this on? How can we reach you?"
  • Choice A
    • Captain: "Did the Guardian do this to her?"
    • Jett Reno: "It's possible. The Guardian's presence does cause a rather powerful spatial displacement, though I'm not sure how badly it usually impacts humans. Maybe it's reacting to all that caffeine in her system."
  • Choice B
    • Captain: "Could this be from her experience with the Borg?"
    • Resolute Chakotay: "They say those who are assimilated never fully recover. There's always that need in your mind, that aching longing to rejoin the Collective. I didn't think the Captain had been assimilated long enough to experience that, but maybe I was wrong."
  • Choice C
    • Captain: "Perhaps it's the stress from everything that happened in the Delta Quadrant?"
    • Drafted McCoy: "It's a possibility. Seven years is a long time to endure what that crew did, cut off from friends and family so long. Perhaps it's something Starfleet needs to consider, further contingency plans for the mental wellbeing of stranded crews."
  • Drafted McCoy: "Captain Janeway needs help. We can't just leave her like this. Captain, you seem to have a knack for resolving insurmountable obstacles. We're counting on you."

Epilogue

  • Determined Janeway: "Captain, thank you so much, for your help, your compassion, and your patience. I'm incredibly ashamed of all the turmoil I've caused. I was in the vicinity of this planet and it seems the distortions caused by Guardian impacted my mental state."
  • Resolute Chakotay: "Kathryn, were you out in this area by coincidence, or were you perhaps seeking the Guardian out for some reason?"
  • Determined Janeway: "I was. I know all of you may never forgive me, and I'm not sure you could understand. All of our lives were irrevocably changed the day we journeyed into the Badlands. We endured so much and lost so many. I just thought, if there was even a chance I could change things..."
  • Drafted McCoy: "Then you might have made them worse. Did you even consider that, Captain? I don't know if things happen for a reason as some say, but I do believe we humans are such a finite little species, I don't think we should mess with time, especially not trying to shoulder it alone."
  • Jett Reno: "You're right, Doc. The time we have is so short, not even the blink of an eye in the grand scheme of things. We're better off enjoying what we have than trying to recapture what's gone."
