Hi Captain Spirk, I fixed your fleet page’s name. Now everything looks right. Titantalk 13:49, 28 January 2018 (CST)

Thank you

Hi Titan,

Thank you for the fix. Hopefully now I can add Starbase bonuses.

--Captain Spirk (talk) 14:42, 28 January 2018 (CST)

Now that my fleet is added, how do I get rid of step 3 in the adding Starbase bonus tutorial page or is that step always there?

--Captain Spirk (talk) 16:53, 28 January 2018 (CST)

G'day Titan,

I have now added my Fleet to the fleets list, how do I get rid of Step 3 in the Template:Crew Page ATS Table/Tutorial page or does it always stay there. I have also set up the Starbase stats on my Fleet page. Fleet Ohio Baby

--Captain Spirk (talk) 11:45, 29 January 2018 (CST)

Fleet Page and Archive

Hi, I deleted all the pages you created today. Creating a bunch of duplicate (mis-named) pages is disruptive to the wiki. Please do not do it again.
Fleet pages MUST be named Fleet <Fleet Name>. Please let me know if you have any questions. Titantalk 01:13, 31 January 2018 (CST)

Help in activating starbase bonus

Hi, I apologize for creating duplicate pages before. I realized until too late that I forgot to put the prefix fleet when I was creating my fleet page. I was confused. I was going to ask you to remove the duplicate page before you fixed it anyway. I hope I won't do it again.

Anyway, can you assist me in creating my Starbase Bonus? It was working when I accidentally created the duplicated pages, now I'm stuck at step 3 in the "Template:Crew Page ATS Table/Tutorial" page.

I think you should do it, in case I stuff anything up again, or point me in the right direction.

Once again, sorry about the mishap before. I'm new to this whole wiki thing.

Creating our crew page

What is the best way in creating our page?

How do I link my "Star Trek Timelines" account crew list to the "Star Trek Timelines" wiki crew page, etc.

--Captain Spirk (talk) 11:32, 5 February 2018 (CST)

There is no way to link your account for it to automatically appear. If you want it to be up to date, you need to do it manually yourself. Titantalk 13:02, 11 February 2018 (CST)

New Pages

Please do not create anymore new pages with your fleet. If you continue to make more pages that are not correct and duplicate, I will have to remove the ability for you to make new pages. As of now, I have had to delete ~25 pages that you have made that are not correct. If you have questions if a page name is correct, please leave a message on my talk page and I will gladly help. Thanks, Titantalk 03:23, 11 February 2018 (CST)

I just fixed it. You didnt have the word “Fleet” before your Fleet’s name on User:Captain Spirk/fleet. You had just “Ohio Baby”, not “Fleet Ohio Baby” as the tutorial said was required. Should work normally now. Titantalk 13:02, 11 February 2018 (CST)
Now that my Template:Crew Page ATS Table/Tutorial is correct, what do I do for Step 4 and adding proficiency pages? Do I need to create the pages Fleet Ohio Baby/starbase and Fleet Ohio Baby/proficiency pages? I hope I don't mess up again.
Also, how do you easily sort a huge list, such as when you create your crew list? Is there a template for this?
--Captain Spirk (talk) 22:00, 11 February 2018 (CST)
What do you mean by sort? I don't recommend trying to keep track of crew that you have in game, on a page here. It is a lot of work. If by sort you mean sort alphabetically, there isn't a template that can sort easily. Id suggest writing a script in javascript or something to sort the list, then re-add it here. Titantalk 00:11, 12 February 2018 (CST)
OK. Wonder how long User:Otto VonBacon took to set up his page. I've got the final steps for activating starbase bonus, how do I go about doing this? Do I need to create pages for Step 4 and proficiency pages?
--Captain Spirk (talk) 00:19, 12 February 2018 (CST)
Yes, just click on the links provided in the tutorial. Titantalk 03:02, 12 February 2018 (CST)
Please let me know if I have made any mistakes when activating Starbase bonus or if I have accidentally create duplicate pages again. Can you please check if I have done if properly it now as well, as I do not want to get on your bad side again.

Cryostasis Vault Collection

How do I fill steps 2 and 3 of the Cryostasis Vault Collections Bonuses section?

I need to fill in the User:Captain Spirk/cvc and User:Captain Spirk/cvc/proficiency section.

Thank you.

--Captain Spirk (talk) 07:16, 4 March 2018 (CST)

I would upload the images of the 1st and 2nd anniversary avatars separate and give them an appropriate name like "STT first anniversary avatar" etc. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 20:14, 28 April 2018 (CDT)

Why couldn't we name those images "Alfa 117 Creature" or "Worf's Pet Targ"? Are they called STT first anniversary avatar and STT second anniversary avatar respectively? Also, what Category would I put them under? Category:Creatures or Category:Animals . In the future, am I allowed to upload any images that is not on here currently, pending approval, of course? Thanks. --Captain Spirk (talk) 08:52, 29 April 2018 (CDT)

I was not saying you can not name them something else. As long as the description is clear it is fine. I would however use the word avatar in the name as we do not know if DB will come out with the characters in full. As far as categories go I would put them in Animals but I think they could fit both categories just fine. And yes you can upload any image not currently available on the wiki, actually it would be great if you do. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 10:43, 29 April 2018 (CDT)

FYI, These two images already exist on the wiki as File:Fleet ALLIED COMMAND ELITE Alfa 177 Canine.png and File:Fleet ALLIED COMMAND ELITE Targ Head.png. I wouldn't have known there were on there if I didn't categorize a few thousand files last week.--Siguard (talk) 11:22, 30 April 2018 (CDT)

Image Resolution

What is the maximum allowed resolution on this wiki for images? How small do the width and height have to be? --Captain Spirk (talk) 18:54, 29 April 2018 (CDT)

When asking a question it is better to go to one of our talk pages instead of posting it on your own, I still had notifications on for your page but I always remove it. As for image size the max is 2mb and there are no specific restrictions on size as far as I'm aware. However a lot of specific images do have specific sizes to keep everything uniform across the wiki (you'll have to see if anything applies). Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 20:21, 29 April 2018 (CDT)

Cryo vault

Hi, I dont feel that if is necessary for me to look over your screenshots to seenif you entered your data correctly. It seems rather self explainitory to me in terms of names of pages and where the data should go. Also, while you can upload any pictures you want, personal screenshots should be uploaded under the name “User <your username> <image name>”. Sorry, Titantalk 13:05, 30 April 2018 (CDT)

Page names

Please do not create random page names for a talk discussion... to answer your question, if i was uploading an image, it might be named User Titan ImageName.png Putting a : is not an ok naming acheme because that symbol is reserved for differentiating between namespaces... Titantalk 02:42, 5 May 2018 (CDT)

Image names

When uploading an image for a Fleet page, it must be named Fleet <fleetname> <imagename>.png. An example of this is an image that may be named Fleet Second Star to the Right some image name.png. When uploading an image for a User page, it must be named User <username> <imagename>.png. An example of this is an image that may be named User Titan Some Image Name.png. Does that make more sense? Titantalk 13:50, 3 June 2018 (CDT)

There is a help guide by Mediawiki, if you click help on the left sidebar. I’m not sure what you are confused about at this point. Look at Fleet Second Star To The Right for help with image names. Specifically the image in the infobox and the images for bots/tools at the bottom. As for screenshots, that depends on the purpose. Ideally no temporary screenshots, and it they are for user pages they need to be named same as fleet but with “User <Username> <imagename>”. Titantalk 16:09, 15 June 2018 (CDT)

A sandbox is just an extra page that you create (example User: Titan/Sandbox) to try something new. Sometimes I use it to develop a new template, or to modify an existing one (i.e. copy an existing template to one of my sandboxes and change it). Titantalk 01:58, 8 July 2018 (CDT)

MediaWiki 1.31

Hey Captain Spirk, I unfortunately do not have an eta for updating to 1.31. The process of updating is significant, as it involves updating extensions also. I don't think I will have time until mid/late december, possibly early January. Sorry, Titantalk 10:17, 2 September 2018 (CDT)

--Captain Spirk (talk) 18:42, 6 August 2019 (CDT)

Fleet Page

I would suggest moving the old fleet pages to the new name (NO REDIRECTS), and changing any other reference to the old fleet to the new fleet. Titantalk 14:53, 8 September 2018 (CDT)

Everything looks fine from a fleet standpoint, assuming your bonuses are displaying normally. For uploading questions, I will direct you to Siguard. Titantalk 09:05, 11 September 2018 (CDT)

Crew Card and Event Images

The crew cards, I believe DB occasionally posts them to their blog, but the ones I've uploaded I just came across on the forums.

The event images, I only ever upload one resolution as well. It looks like the site automatically creates alternate versions if the ratio matches, like the Shore Leave 2 image I just did. I only did the 2160x1080, and no other uploaders are listed, but there's two alternate sizes available. Middlehead (talk) 14:42, 29 March 2019 (CDT)

Crew Cards

They post them on Facebook, and Instagram. I download them and upload them just like any other file. They are a part of the SACharacter template, so their appearance on the crew pages is automatic now, once uploaded. Ace (talk) 16:27, 12 April 2019 (CDT)

I already have. :) I submitted the missing cards via Facebook. Hopefully, as more come, I can catch them. Shan told me their graphics person was supposed to upload them to the Wiki, too, but obviously it's not happening. Ace (talk) 17:36, 12 April 2019 (CDT)

Vault Pics

Where do you get your vault pics, and where are they used in the Wiki? Thanks Ace (talk) 07:39, 16 April 2019 (CDT)

Ok. Thanks. Strange, just a collection of pics, no real purpose. I have never stumbled across that list before. Ace (talk) 08:17, 16 April 2019 (CDT)

Hi Spirk. I've been curious about why there's still some category issues after Titan did the Wiki upgrade, and noticed your posts about the Vault pics. I've managed to get a couple of the pics to appear in the Category by doing a focelinkupdate api call as mentioned here [1], but it's a bit of a painful process. I would suggest trying to do a null edit on the file, but it seems most of these are protected. Magelite (talk) 04:30, 19 April 2019 (CDT)

It's all fixed now. Before File:Commander Troi Vault.png wasn't on the Category:Crew Vault head page. It is there now. I'll go over it again to see if there are any others missing. Some of my vault pics were missing as well. Speaking of which, the link for Category:Crew Vault head does not work properly on some of my vault pics. How do you fix those?
How do you do a forcelinkupdate api?
--Captain Spirk (talk) 07:38, 19 April 2019 (CDT)
I had to hack together a script to do the forcelinkupdate. You've started editing some of the pics that were working and now they're not. When editing the file, you need to ensure that they have in there, and not :Category:Crew Vault head. Putting the : in front of Category is for putting a link to the Category page, not for adding the file to the Category page. Magelite (talk) 09:48, 19 April 2019 (CDT)
I've just run a script over all the uncategorised vault images and have done a forcelinkupdate on the ones that have a valid Category tag on them. About 10 minutes later the number of image in the category has moved from 398 to 432! There are 5 images that aren't in the category which need to have their metadata fixed up.

Magelite (talk) 03:27, 20 April 2019 (CDT)
Thank you
--Captain Spirk (talk) 05:01, 20 April 2019 (CDT)
Why doesn't the link Category:Crew Vault head show in the Comments section or sometimes the Category doesn't show up as a link at all?
--Captain Spirk (talk) 07:13, 20 April 2019 (CDT)
If you click on View History on the images where the Category appears in the Comments, it looks like the comment was added when the image was originally created/uploaded.
Sometimes after editing the pages you have to wait for the Wiki to process changes before the Category links appear properly...
This has all been a learning experience for me as well! Magelite (talk) 09:18, 20 April 2019 (CDT)

Crew Name

It is, but by last name, not first. Specifically, surname, as like the Bajorans, their surname is in front, so 'last' name doesn't fit. It's stated on the crewnav instructions. I know White Rabbit sounds dumb in Rs, but it is the last name. All characters are now listed with surnames showing, if they have one. Ace (talk) 11:04, 17 April 2019 (CDT)

I put La Rouque in the Ls for the same reason as the La Forge family is there, the La is part of the surname. Orion Slaver, I assume he was put there because he never really gets a name so the editor just opted to think of him as "Orion Slaver" instead of "Slaver, Orion". M113 and Insectiod Councilor are probably the same idea; it's hard to categorize things by surname when some of the items aren't names at all, so it ends up as a judgement call.

I'm not sure what you mean by "crew not have a link associated with their page, when they do have page". Are you asking why names like Decker and La Rouque are red? If so, that's because they don't actually have a page. Frederick La Rouque and Commodore Matt Decker exist, but those aren't the pages that should be linked in CrewNav. Their base-character pages (like Picard for Jean-Luc and Riker for William T) haven't been made yet. That's just because I've been the only one doing those pages for a while now and I just haven't gotten around to it. Middlehead (talk) 15:55, 11 July 2019 (CDT)

Thanks for clarifying my questions. As for my question on "Are you asking why names like Decker and La Rouque are red?" and your answer "Their base-character pages (like Picard for Jean-Luc and Riker for William T) haven't been made yet" makes perfect sense.
Thank you.
--Captain Spirk (talk) 06:45, 12 July 2019 (CDT)
La Rouque looks good. The only thing I would've done differently is use the "Full" image in the Infobox instead of the Head, but that's just a matter of preference. Middlehead (talk) 12:50, 13 July 2019 (CDT)

Calculating numbers

You could use variables where every crew member you add you increment a variable everytime you add a new crew member to the table (given the var command doesnt print anything without #vardefineecho, so it is invisible normally. Then use the result of that at the end of the template to generate a table. Could have separate counts for each rarity. Alternatively, better way would be to write a module in lua, but i am unsure how that works. Titantalk 13:02, 4 August 2019 (CDT)

See code for the table:

Super Rare
Super Rare
Super Rare
Super Rare
Super Rare
Super Rare
Super Rare

Rarity Count Percent
Rare 5/15 33.33%
Super Rare 7/15 46.67%
Legendary 3/15 20%

Example above. Titantalk 19:24, 5 August 2019 (CDT)

Crew Skills

Hi! I've just noticed that your 1 star Level 30 skill numbers for Riker Q were incorrect. I've input the correct numbers. Remember to always double check your edits! --Darxide (talk) 01:28, 9 August 2019 (CDT)
To enter Away Team Skill values you always use the base values. You view these by clicking the 'i' on the crew stats panel just below the "Train" button and using the numbers on the left side which are labeled "Base Stats". --Darxide (talk) 17:24, 9 August 2019 (CDT)

Event Storm Warning

I saw your upload in the Recent Changes yesterday, but it hadn't processed yet for me to reupload over mine. I actually still can't see your original upload, but I see you got it working on the main listing later. Good catch, I didn't even notice the image wasn't there until you said it. Middlehead (talk) 13:11, 9 August 2019 (CDT)

Away Team Skills

The ATSB numbers being off by one is just a rounding error in the bonus calculations. If you politely poke Siguard he may look into fixing it at some point. --Darxide (talk) 00:12, 18 August 2019 (CDT)

Anything between (and including) <!—- and —> is not displayed on the screen. That includes newlines.

Here is a list of all Templates. Titantalk 12:29, 20 August 2019 (CDT)

Full Crew and Crew Head images

Screenshot the full crew image in the game (use Facebook or Steam for the highest resolution possible) and carefully edit. Cut out the head exactly as shown on the icon and then remove the background and make it transparent. I use Paint.Net for that. --Darxide (talk) 10:33, 3 September 2019 (CDT)

You just start either one of them and login with your DBID email and password. --Darxide (talk) 19:17, 3 September 2019 (CDT)

Character Pages

You don't need to wait until the SACharacter bit is done to make character pages; as long as everybody involved uses the same reference name, it'll catch up when the SACharacter entry gets added. I think that was the problem with The Bashirs, that somebody changed the SACharacter reference for them after you made the page, so it looked wrong until the page reference got updated.

I just added Jellico so his page should look right now.

The quickest way to tell if an SACharacter entry is done should be to look at the Options list, whoever adds the SAC code should also be updating that, but I wouldn't worry about sandbox testing. I'd just look at the crew page; if the versions show up it's done, if not it's not. Middlehead (talk) 11:56, 14 September 2019 (CDT)

Crew Head Images

Hi, I get the images from the game server.

I use chrome and the facebook version of the game. I turn on developer tools. I open up the character in the game and copy the URL for the image. I then paste that into the address field of the browser and it downloads the Unity formatted file. I then use a utility I found on the internet that extracts unity assets and voila, I have the image. The utility is UnityPack-master. It is a python utility. Dlefebvre1701 (talk) 11:43, 7 December 2019 (CST)

I also get mine directly from the game files. --Darxide (talk) 15:18, 20 December 2019 (CST)

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you. I have been very busy. Once you download one of the .SD files that contains the image, then run: python \UnityPack-Master\bin\unityextract --images You need python installed. use the actual name of the file where you see above. I hope that helps. Dlefebvre1701 (talk) 14:17, 10 January 2020 (CST)

Hi, i am not sure what you mean? What image did you upload? Are you asking how to add am image to a category? As far as usage, that is automatically generated. Titantalk 00:32, 27 January 2020 (CST)

Community Portal

Hi, i do not have an opinion on what the standard for images should be, although i do think there should be a standard. I have never uploaded an image from in-game, so that is outside my area of expertise. Id see what Siguard, Koba44, and Middlehead think. Best way to contact Admin’s is just posting on there talk pages. That will ensure the quickest response normally. That post though can just be a link to a topic on the Star Trek Timelines: Admin noticeboard. Id suggest that over the community portal. The community portal hasnt been used (much) since the wiki was at it’s original domain. Titantalk 17:38, 3 March 2020 (CST)

Category:Crew Full and Category:Crew Head

I would focus more on ratio than size. We can't always guarantee size depending on how people acquire the images, but they should be able to trim it to a ratio and then the site can scale to fit depending on use. Middlehead (talk) 11:29, 10 March 2020 (CDT)

Robin's Laws (All 102 of Them)

You had the item page right, the filename of the image in the "ItemName" field is all you need there, the image name itself was the catch. MediaWiki doesn't like non-alpha characters in filenames; I uploaded a copy with the ' and () stripped out, updated the ItemName and it worked. I knew the site didn't like apostrophes in names so I tried that first, turns out it also doesn't like parentheses. Middlehead (talk) 10:30, 31 March 2020 (CDT)

Item gallery

The reason that image was appearing in the gallery is because you added 2 categories to the root image. See this diff, It may take awhile for the category changes to propogate to the gallery page. Titantalk 05:06, 11 April 2020 (CDT)

Hidden Categories

All Hidden category is a normal category where the magic word __HIDDENCAT__ is on the category page. (See here). Same as any other category page, it exists if it exists, and items are in the category if that page has that category specified on it. Usually hidden categories are added automatically via templates (example: a hidden category is used on every page that the new-ish Template:Crew Page ATS Table template to keep track of crew pages that use the new template. Then it can be determined which crew pages do not use that template. Titantalk --Captain Spirk (talk) 11:54, 21 April 2020 (CDT)

First, I’d like to suggest reading through some of MediaWiki’s documentation on categories. See the help link on left sidebar. Or use Google. While I can answer questions, these are easily found on other sources. The part of the category page you are talking about is automatically generated with every page that has on it. Remove that piece of code from a page and it will be removed from the category page (may take a little while to propagate the change). Titantalk 13:56, 29 April 2020 (CDT)
