Diplomacy Having heard of the crisis, many Vulcans living offworld are attempting to return home to help their families. Starfleet must convince them to stay away, or they could be affected by Surak's katra as well. When the away team explains that offworld Vulcans returning home could lose their grasp on reality as so many already have, their audience sees the logic in staying away. They will help however they can from afar. The away team only persuades a handful of Vulcans to stay away from their homeworld. The rest remain convinced that the most beneficial and logical place for them to be is with their families, despite the risk of Surak's katra touching them.

Science The architect Koss is one of the few Vulcans showing no signs of Surak's shattered katra. If he will agree to an examination, his physiology may reveal a way to protect his people from this phenomenon. While examining Koss, the away team notices building schematics he has been drafting–schematics of long-destroyed buildings from Surak's era. Koss admits that he too has been having visions from the katra, and agrees to medical observation. The away team consults with Vulcan experts before assessing Koss's physical condition. Their examination is thorough, but they can uncover no reason why he, out of all his people, seem unaffected by Surak's katra.

As the only human to have carried Surak's katra, Captain Archer has offered to counsel those plagued by katric visions. Brief the captain on Vulcan therapeutic techniques before he meets with affected citizens. Thanks to the away team's briefing, Captain Archer treats his Vulcan "patients" logically, using his own memories of Surak to give context to the chaotic visions that plague them. All those who visit him look significantly calmer afterwards. The away team's unwieldy explanation of Vulcan therapeutic techniques is no help to Captain Archer. He takes a human approach to counseling the Vulcans who come to him, but his emotional reassurances do nothing for them.

Diplomacy Security Labeled a renegade by the Vulcan government of his day, Syrran is refusing help the High Council even though he has safely carried Surak's katra before. Convince him to mind meld with affected council members. The away team swears to protect Syrran if he will meet with the High Council, and he reluctantly agrees. He uses a mind meld to remove the unstable memories plaguing several councilors, though only time will tell how his own mind will bear them. Despite the away team's reassurances, Syrran is not convinced that he can trust the High Council. Without his help to remove their katric visions, most councilors remain unable to perform their duties.

Surak's scattered memories have sent dozens of Vulcans into an untimely pon farr. Those living in remote regions must be transported for proper treatment–but those transporting them should exercise caution. The away team keeps the afflicted Vulcans isolated behind force fields while transporting them, bringing them to a clinic with treatment options while keeping their crew from becoming similarly afflicted. A Vulcan in the late stages of pon farr manages to touch the away team as they are transporting him. It's enough to initiate a telepathic mating bond, and the affected team members fall into their own pon farr.

Willing to embrace both emotions and logic, the v'tosh ka'tur seem less shaken by Surak's katra than most Vulcans do. Study their philosophies for techniques that could help others cope as they have. The away team finds a v'tosh ka'tur meditation technique designed to let emotions–and, perhaps, memories–flow through the mind instead of suppressing them. It will be difficult for most Vulcans to learn, but it may help some cope with this crisis. The v'tosh ka'tur's appreciation of emotion clearly helps them handle the chaos of Surak's shattered katra, but the away team concludes that their philosophies are too illogical for the average Vulcan to accept.

Overwhelmed by memories from Surak's katra, Vulcans have been heading into the desert, retracing Surak's steps through remembered places that are now impassable. Stop them before they reach their destinations! The away team coordinates orbital scans with Starfleet, dispatching shuttles to rescue Vulcans whose memories have led them into areas where rock formations and lava make transporter locks impossible. The away team manages to rescue one band of Vulcans before they are lost forever in the desolate wastes of the Forge, but with so many katra-driven Vulcans wandering in different directions, many more go missing.

The Vulcan High Council has been as affected by Surak's katra as their people, but they still have a government to run. Ensure that the council members can continue their duties despite their current affliction. The away team sets up authorization codes for the High Council, codes they can only remember when not gripped by Surak's memories. It will delay their work, but ensure that they are themselves when making vital decisions. The away team assigns aides to help the High Council, but the Vulcan aides are as likely to lose themselves to Surak's memories as the council members are. Without reliable leadership, Vulcan struggles to respond to the crisis at hand.

The strain of carrying Surak's katra is accelerating Ambassador Sarek's Bendii Syndrome, causing him and those around him to lose control of their emotions. Stabilize the ambassador until the katra can be removed. Seeing how rapidly Sarek is deteriorating, the away team tailors a long term sedative to his Vulcan physiology. They are confident that it will keep him stable, if unconscious, until a better treatment is available. Every Vulcan telepath the away team finds with the training to control Sarek's emotional projections is also affected by Surak's katra. Sarek's only recourse is to isolate himself while his condition worsens.

Science In their distress, some Vulcans are researching the fullara ritual to erase the tumultous memories they hold due to Surak's katra. If they find what they seek, those parts of Surak will be lost forever. The away team scours Vulcan databases and encrypts whatever records of the fullara ritual they can find. They encourage desperate Vulcans to stick with meditation rather than take such drastic measures. The away team finds very few records of the fullara ritual. These they are able to encrypt, but they are left wondering if there is more data that they've been unable to keep out of desperate hands.

The Vulcan Ministry of Information possesses detailed but private records of Surak's life. Convince Ministry representatives to share what they know of Surak so his scattered memories can be pieced together. The away team finds the Ministry of Information's representatives in the grip of katric memories and keeps them from coming to harm until they have passed. They are more than willing to share Surak's records in thanks. The Vulcan Ministry of Information is unimpressed by the away team's request for records of Surak's life. No matter how much they insist, the Ministry replies that such personal history is meant for Vulcans alone.

Vorik hopes to build a katric ark to hold the pieces of Surak's katra, but none have existed on Vulcan for hundreds of years. Help him locate 22nd century Vulcans with firsthand accounts of an ark's construction. After days of searching, the away team finds a group of Syrranites willing to discuss the katric ark their leader once found. Vorik uses their descriptions to begin constructing a new ark for Surak's katra. The few 22nd century Vulcans the away team finds have never seen a katric ark in person, leaving Vorik with only the most basic guidelines as he attempts to construct a new ark for Surak's katra.
