Pore through the code in Dejaren's program to see where updates need to be made. The code in Dejaren's program is a couple centuries old, but with hard work, your team is able to update the program to current tech as well as make some needed upgrades and repairs to Dejaren's operating system. Because the code in Dejaren's program is a couple centuries old, your team must learn outdated computer languages in order to repair and upgrade Dejaren's program. This could take months.

Based on Sisko's stories about Dejaren, study his psychology so that you understand his psychopathy and can program around it, using it to your advantage. Despite some misgivings about the ethics of doing so, your team is able to use their new knowledge of Dejaren's psychopathy to program his murderous desires accurately. Your team refuse to perform this task out of what they see to be an ethical grey area with the order.

Hack into Federation computers to access the archives where Dejaren's program is stored. Your team is able to find Dejaren's program. It is very old and has some damage, but it is able to be reconstructed and even improved upon. The former program has been lost to time, so your team will have to completely rebuild Dejaren based on Sisko's stories about him.

With Sisko's and Odo's knowledge of Federation history in the Gamma quadrant, pool your knowledge to get an accurate picture of life aboard Terok Nor, so that you all have the same information and can coordinate your plans. Everyone is on the same page, which makes planning the assassination go smoothly. Odo and Sisko have conflicting understandings of a number of things, and you will need to spend more time figuring out whose version of each fact to use within your working knowledge.

Document all processes that you, Sisko and Odo undertake regarding your plans and actions, in case the information is needed by the Federation later. While documenting activities, you discover a couple of inconsistencies in your thought processes and plans, which your team has the ability to correct before the assassination takes place. Through documenting your activities, a philosophical question is raised about whether you are violating the Prime Directive, and if it applies to this situation. This argument continues for quite some time, and remains unresolved.

Get a message to the Federation about your predicament to see if they can assist you in any way. The Federation can't send any personnel, but they provide you with valuable intelligence about the Cardassians, Gul Dukat, Dejaren, and Terok Nor. They will also note the anomaly of you three being there in their records. The Federation does not believe your message, thinking it a ruse by desperate Bajorans to drawn them into a conflict.

Review all available information on Federation holograms so that you understand what can and cannot be expected from a hologram in the physical world. This will make you more able to plan around the fact that Dejaren is a hologram. Now that you understand the physiology and physics inherent to Federation holograms, it is easier to more realistically program Dejaren's mission without any unnecessary hiccups during the assassination. You must re-do your tactical plan, because it made some incorrect assumptions about what a hologram can and cannot do.

Use Federation knowledge of the layout of the space station to tactically plan the assassination of Gul Dukat. Fortunately, there have not been massive modifications to the layout between the time the space station was Terok Nor and the time when it became Deep Space Nine. You make a solid tactical plan for the assassination, based on this information. It is clear that the layout on the inside of the station is much different, with walls where they shouldn't be and rooms all a different shape than they eventually end up on Deep Space Nine. This makes tactical planning a lot more difficult.

Work a few days in Quark's establishment, to get you enough latinum strips with which to bribe Cardassian guards. Other Bajorans working in the establishment pool their latinum with yours in order to help bribe a couple of the more friendly Cardassians to look the other way at just the right times. When you get a few orders wrong, Quark uses the Rules of Acquisition to justify taking his losses from your pay. At this rate, it will take weeks to raise enough for a proper bribery.

Collect as much information as you can from the Bajorans aboard Terok Nor about Gul Dukat, to help with the assassination plans. With no love lost between the Bajorans and Gul Dukat, it's easy to learn everything you need to know about him: his schedule, his habits, who he trusts, and more. This will help immensely with the assassination plan. The Bajorans are so afraid of Gul Dukat that they won't even talk about him.

Find any weaknesses in the Cardassians' security protocols and containment areas, so that they can be exploited during an assassination. Your team finds a few areas where the fence is weak, and where there are fewer guard patrols. This will greatly help your overall efforts. Unfortunately, there appear to be few vulnerabilities in the security system as far as fences and guard patrols go. Your plans will have to account for this.

The Bajoran leaders are dead set against your plans, as they would put a wrench into larger, wider plans that the Bajorans have for revolting against the Cardassians. You marvel at the amount of change that had to happen, to turn one into the other. Now that you know about Terok Nor, it will help your plans along. Your crew argues about whether this task is really necessary, since you all have a general working knowledge of the layout of the station. You'll need to regroup and refocus the team.

Based on the information in the Federation file, your team is able to faithfully reconstruct Dejaren's holographic program. Your team builds a bridging program that makes it easy for Federation and Cardassian computers to be compatible with each other, and also easy for your team to re-program Dejaren. Getting into the computer system will not be an obstacle at all! The Cardassians keep these computer access cards on their person.
