Science Engineering The Prophets once guided Akorem Laan through time, and now he hopes to pass through their wormhole again, this time for science as much as faith. Help him outfit his vessel to study the wormhole. The away team outfits Akorem's lightship with modern sensors and reinforcements in case of turbulence in the wormhole. He returns from the voyage eager to share his findings with both the Daystrom Institute and the Vedek Assembly. The away team reinforces Akorem's age-old lightship as best they can, but he does not return from the wormhole. It is difficult to tell whether the Prophets guided him back to his own time, or whether he met a more tragic end.

Diplomacy After her many encounters with the Borg, Kathryn Janeway has gathered data on their use of temporal vortices. She wants to submit her findings to the Daystrom Institute, if the Bajorans will ever allow it. Although the Bajorans are uncomfortable with the source of Janeway's data, the away team convinces them that it is too valuable to ignore. They reluctantly agree to sponsor the rest of her work for the Daystrom Award. The away team makes a reasonable presentation about the value of Janeway's data, but Bajor's scientists are unwilling to use technology from as deadly a species as the Borg. Janeway's findings will not be brought to the Daystrom Institute.

AND
Command
Research on the relatively unexamined phenomenon of anti-time would impress the Daystrom Institute, but it may not be safe to attempt to generate in a lab. Find another way for researchers to study it. After days of searching, the away team found a small pocket of what they believe to be anti-time. They've warned interested researchers to study it cautiously, but the researchers are still excited to preset their findings to the Daystrom Institute. DIALOGUE FAIL
Past the Cutting Edge Command
OR
Science
Security Science Krenim scientists have asked to enter the competition, but given their people's use of temporal science for military purposes, the Bajorans are reluctant to sponsor them without assessing their research proposal. The Krenim's temporal research proposal nearly gives the away team a headache, but they are confident that it is harmless theoretical work, not anything that could we weaponized. The Bajorans agree to sponsor it. The Krenim's proposed research is so incomprehensible that the away team checks their universal translators for a malfunction. With no way to understand the Krenim's goals, the Bajorans refuse to sponsor them.

OR
Science
Science The Department of Temporal Investigations has halted all temporal research in the Daystrom Institute's competition until they are sure it is being conducted safely. Have an away team assist with the inspection. The away team is ready with reassuring answers and detailed explanations for every question the inspectors have about temporal research. The grudgingly allow temporal research for the competition to resume. DIALOGUE FAIL
Stretching Time Medicine Command
AND
Science
Engineering Starfleet has studied many temporal anomalies in the present, but some of the Bajorans' researchers want to study their apertures in the past. They've asked an away team to check their slingshot effect calculations. After the away team corrects crucial errors in the scientists' calculations, they are able to travel a few years into the past for their research and return using the slingshot effect. The Daystrom Institute will be interested in their findings. DIALOGUE FAIL
Temporal Trickery Engineering
AND
Security
Science Security Several Bajoran-sponsored scientists have reported strange malfunctions and accidents with their temporal experiments. They want a research team to find whatever is causing this and stop it. The away team's investigation points to Braxton, a 29th century captain who lost his career thanks to time travel. He shouts at them to stop their research, just before a ship from his own time wordlessly transports him away. The disrupted experiments range from simple computer simulations to complex chroniton particle collectors, all of them somehow malfunctioning. Whoever did this is intelligent, but the away team has no definite leads.
Thought and Time Engineering
OR

Medicine Science The enigmatic Traveler and his people have a different understanding of time than most species do. Some of the Bajorans' temporal scientists would love to speak with him about temporal mechanics, if you can find him. The away team tracks rumors and hunches to an obscure star system, where they find the Traveler, wounded, in a strange vessel. They treat his wounds, and in thanks for their help, he agrees to share some of what he knows with the temporal scientists. The away team finds rumors of the Traveler, or beings like him, scattered across the quadrant, but they find no signs of the being himself. The temporal scientists will have to continue their research alone.
Truth from Myth Science
AND
Engineering
Diplomacy The former vedek Yarka is convinced that an ancient Bajoran prophecy holds the key to a new form of time travel. He's requested assistance translating its mystical references into technical terms. Interpreting Yorka's prophecy requires a few leaps of faith, but the away team uses it to create the framework for a temporal transporter. It is not functional yet, but it should still impress the Daystrom Institute. The away team and Yarka cannot agree on a single interpretation of the extremely vague prophecy. At the end of the day, they have nothing to show for their work, and Yarka is having doubts about the whole idea.
Where Prophets Walk Science Diplomacy Diplomacy
AND
Command
Most Bajorans support their government's sponsorship in the Daystrom competition, but some vedeks call such a close study of time travel heretical. Assuage their fears before they sway the public to their side. The away team patiently reviewed ancient text after ancient text with the worried vedeks, eventually convincing them that the Prophets seem indifferent to humanoid study of time travel. They agree to stop their protests. Despite the away team's arguments, the dissenting vedeks still insist that studying time travel will bring Bajor and those it has sponsored too close to the Prophets for mortals to bear.

Acquisitions Command

Science
Diplomacy One of the Ferengi Alliance's scientists is hoping to develop an improved form of multiphasic shielding. First, however, she'll need access to a cloaking device, something even the Ferengi have struggled to acquire. The away team tracks a rumor of a Suliban cloaking device from one junk dealer or trader to the next until, after a whirlwind of deals, they return to the Alliance's scientist with a cloaking device for her research. The away team spends hundreds of credits making one trade after another, but at the end of the day, they have only a few crates of spare parts to show for it, and no cloaking device for the Alliance's scientists.
Deadly Serious Diplomacy
AND
Science
Security Someone claiming to be a Starfleet scientist just submitted a torpedo design to the Alliance, one so unpleasant that they balked at the thought of profiting from it. Find out who made this sinister invention. The torpedo's creator was hiding behind many false identities, but the away team eventually identified him as a relapsed, shape-shifting Garth of Izar. Needless to say his new weapon will not be considered by the Daystrom Institute. The away team was unable to locate the torpedo's creator. The Daystrom institute has ordered the design schematics destroyed, but whoever invented it likely has other copies in their possession.
Library Etiquette Science

Diplomacy Science Since the Daystrom Award competition was announced, Memory Alpha has been overwhelmed with requests for data. The Ferengi want their sponsored scientists' requests sorted out from frivolous ones. The away team developed a system to prioritize incoming requests to Memory Alpha, getting the Ferengi's scientists the data they need. They also caught and denied several forged requests for classified documents. Sorting through requests for this obscure file or that classified schematic, the away team became just as overwhelmed as Memory Alpha's staff. Researchers hoping to gather data for the contest will have to see help elsewhere.
Out of Mothballs Engineering Science Diplomacy Captain Montgomery Scott has requested help retrofitting a Constitution-class ship with some Galaxy-class technology. Starfleet is intrigued, but his Ferengi sponsors want to know if the project can be profitable. The away team gave Ferengi sponsors a tour of a Constitution-class starship, selling them on its unique charm and cultural value. The agreed to fund Scotty's work if he can turn one ship into a cruise vessel. The away team explains how valuable Scotty's project could be for Starfleet, but despite all their talk of historical significance and technical capabilities, the Ferengi see no profit in it for themselves.

When Alliance investors went to view Doctor Leah Brahms's latest warp field research, they found her laboratory on emergency lockdown. Send an away team in to learn Doctor Brahms's fate. The away team reached Brahms's laboratory in time to rescue her from a subspace rift. Confident that she can keep the warp particle flux which created the rift from happening again, she still intends to participate in the contest. The away team was able to rescue Doctor Brahms from an unusual rift inside her lab, but she has been unconscious ever since. Her doctors are hopeful that she will recover, but likely not in time to earn the Daystrom Award.
Room to Work Command Science
AND
Engineering
Engineering The Ferengi Alliance acquired the rights to a derelict research station at a bargain price. It would be an excellent workspace for the researchers they are sponsoring, if an away team can get it up and running again. The away team restores main power to the station and gets its central laboratory operational. The Alliance sponsored researchers are able to begin their work while the away team continues repairs on the rest of the station. Whoever sold the station to the Alliance was clearly aware of the 239th Rule of Acquisition: "Never be afraid to mislabel a product." The away team conducted substantial repairs, but the station is good for little more than scrap.
Self-Interest Command Diplomacy
AND
Science
Diplomacy Scientist and self-proclaimed genius Gideon Seyetik has offered to invent something for the Ferengi Alliance on one condition: that they have a team promote the upcoming volume of his autobiography. Within a few days, the away team has Seyetik's autobiography flying off of virtual shelves across the Alpha Quadrant. Even Seyetik calls their marketing scheme ingenious, and he agrees to work with the Ferengi Alliance. DIALOGUE FAIL
Test Flight Science Engineering
AND
Security
Leonardo da Vinci has developed structural integrity field modifications that could increase ships' maximum warp, but the Ferengi want proof that his invention is worth their investment. Create a simulation to test it. The away team recreated Leonardo's new structural integrity field on the holodeck down to the smallest detail. Their successful stress tests got the Ferengi's attention, and soon the field will be ready to submit to the Daystrom Institute. DIALOGUE FAIL

Science Security A talented inventor the Ferengi Alliance hired has stopped responding to their communications as his research nears completion. They want to know whether he's selling his work to one of their competitors. Monitoring the inventor's lab, the away team detects an incoming transmission from the Ferengi Traditionalists. When the Alliance offers to double whatever they are paying him, the inventor agrees to continue working on their behalf. The inventor's lab is well protected, and the away team can't find out what, if anything, he has done with his work. During a brief conversation, he simply insists that he is not interested in working with the Alliance.

AND
Security
Reginald Barclay has developed a new transporter design with increased range and additional failsafes. Before he can submit it to the Daystrom Institute, he'll have to convince the Ferengi that it's worthwhile. Once the away team demonstrates that Barclay's new transporter can recover priceless cargo from even the most hazardous conditions, the Ferengi Alliance is more than happy to sponsor further development. The away team runs Barclay's new transporter through standard transporter safety tests, but the Ferengi Alliance is unimpressed, and Barclay is not convinced that it's safe for human use.

Aches and Pains Science Medicine
AND
Science
Now cured of the Vidiian phage, Danara Pel is working on a new analgesic that will bring relief to those suffering even the most agonizing diseases. She'll need help completing it in time for the Daystrom Award. The away team proposed a modified structure for Danara's analgesic molecule, one that lets it target a wider range of pain receptors. Thanks to their help, she should have something to show the Daystrom Institute. The away team could not increase the effectiveness of Danara's new compound beyond that of known analgesics. She has nothing to show to the Daystrom Institute and nothing to help her patients.
Do No Harm Science Medicine Diplomacy Doctor Toby Russell has asked the Augments to sponsor her genetronics research, and despite the unethical practices involved, they are extremely interested. Starfleet needs an away team to dissuade them. The away team successfully demonstrates how unproven and costly Russell's genetronics work is. The Augments are less put off by the risks it poses to patients, but they still turn down Russell's request. The away team makes a passionate case against Russell's research, citing the risks to patients, but the Augments are more interested in the rewards than the costs. They are likely to accept her proposal.
Fool Me Once Medicine

Diplomacy The genetic engineering Angosian soldiers were subjected to may lead to gene therapies for dying patients, but the soldiers are wary of any doctors who approach them. See if an away team can earn their trust. The away team suggests a partnership: doctors will study the Angosian veterans' physiology while also treating their symptoms. Impressed by the away team's honesty, they agree to help with the research. The Angosian soldiers are immediately suspicious of the away team, and the friendlier the away team acts, the more nervous the become. They will not be contributing to research for the Daystrom Award.

Medicine Biosynthetic limbs are valuable prosthetics, but some can be difficult for the body to adjust to. Nog has asked one of the Augments' researchers to develop a better model, and she could use an away team's help. Nog was impressed by the away team and the researcher's work. The neural interface they developed should make it easier for patients to adapt to prosthetics, and is sure to impress the Daystrom Institute. The away team developed a biosynthetic limb with increased flexibility, but it does not help with the pain some patients experience. The Augment researcher does not want to show it to the Daystrom Institute.
How Are You Feeling? Command
OR
Diplomacy
Security Medicine Given their resilient immune systems, a few Ferengi agreed to try a new antibiotic developed by the Augments' researchers. They claim the treatment made them ill, but a medical exam should reveal the truth. The away team discovered that an ingested mix of herbs, not the new antibiotic, caused the Ferengi's fever. When confronted, they did not admit to taking the herbs, but they did quietly withdraw their complaint. As far as the away team can tell, the Ferengi who tried the new antibiotic are genuinely ill. They don't know if the antibiotic was responsible, but it will need further testing to be submitted for the Daystrom Award.
In the Wrong Hands Diplomacy
OR
Command
Diplomacy After his experiences with Khan Noonien Singh, Leonard McCoy does not trust the Augments, but he does appreciate medical research. Convince McCoy to accept the Augments' help in this competition. The away team eventually reassured McCoy that if he accepts the Augments' support, he, not they, will have the rights to whatever he develops. Satisfied, he gives the Augments a long list of materials for his research. DIALOGUE FAIL

The Daystrom Institute has been highly anticipating an entry from Doctor Julian Bashir, but he is busy treating an outbreak of dysplasia. Help Bashir complete his duties so he can participate in the competition. The away team developed a fast-acting dysplasia treatment that impressed even Doctor Bashir. In fact, he says it inspired him to develop a similar compound to submit to the Daystrom Institute. The dysplasia outbreak continues spreading faster than either the away team or Bashir can account for. Bashir is committed to finding a cure, though he likely won't be able to participate in the Daystrom Award.

Medicine Science Having benefited from synaptic treatment herself, Sarina Douglas has asked to develop a similar therapy for the Daystrom Institute’s competition. The Augments want her medical expertise assessed. The away team's tests reveal that while Sarina has no hands-on expertise with medical procedures, the theory behind her proposed treatment is sound. They recommend assigning a team of doctors to work with her. The synaptic treatment Sarina proposed is described in very abstract terms, and the away team can neither tell what it will do or whether she has the means to pull it off in time for the Daystrom Award.
Reformation Diplomacy Science Security The Suliban Cabal has undergone some of the most extensive physical modifications known to Starfleet. If you can find someone in the Cabal willing to submit to study, they may suggest potential medical advances. The away team finds a Cabal defector currently disguised as a Vulcan scientist. They offer protection from her former companions in exchange for non-invasive exams by some of the Augment-sponsored scientists. It takes the away team to track down a single member of the elusive Suliban Cabal, and he attacks them on sight. The away team's research proposition is answered only by a barrage of rifle fire.
The Neural Frontier Science
OR

Science Engineering The Augments are interested in expanding the limits of human consciousness. The Bynars' synaptic processors may suggest a way to increase humanoids' cognitive processing capabilities. The away team's research suggests that synaptic processors could facilitate the sharing of images and basic thoughts between non-telepathic individuals. If this theory can be applied, it could lead to remarkable discoveries. After studying synaptic processors used by the Bynar, the away team concludes that they can only be used when connected to a computer database. The Augments are disappointed to hear of this limitation.
