Toolbox Image Flip

Hey, I noticed you changed the Item Name of the of some of the Toolboxes to "Toolboxflip". I understand why, I forgot to go back to the {{Icons}} template and update the flip coding. It's fixed now and items look a hell of a lot better. Sorry for the visual inconvenience.--Siguard (talk) 00:15, 28 February 2017 (CST)

Ha ha.... I was trying to have it where it would show a "flipped" image correctly but it just made a mess of it so I decided to just upload the flipped image Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 09:38, 28 February 2017 (CST)

Item Images

What process are you following for item images? I noticed you've come along behind a couple I've uploaded and updated them. What's the difference? Silverstorm (talk) 22:38, 7 March 2017 (CST)

With some of them it is the larger stars instead of the small stars as was decided in a discussion on items. With some it is getting all versions of an item on the same quality and sometimes it might simply be coincidence that I am working on that item... It is not personal. The main reason is to get a unified look on items. You can see that Siguard has the same look for the items. Let me know if this answers your question Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 23:01, 7 March 2017 (CST)

Do we have particular assets we're using to do that work? The biggest difference I noticed was the size of the image. Mine are typically about 144px square, and yours are 220px square. Second difference is different curvature on the border corners. The approach I'm using is a PSD with four layers: background, the item image, a border, and stars. I created six templates (one per rarity) from existing item images on the wiki that I believe were taken from screenshots, so they look "exactly" like in-game. The actual item image is something I'm extracting from the asset bundles DB publishes for the game to use. Then I paste that image into the PSD on top of the background, and save the whole thing as a PNG, which flattens the layers. Templates are read-only files, so I don't accidentally overwrite them. If you've got specific assets/process, can you/Siguard document so I can follow them? Silverstorm (talk) 23:38, 7 March 2017 (CST)

I posted a work process on this discussion Talk:Items#Replicator_and_Items. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 10:27, 8 March 2017 (CST)

Admin

Hey Otto VonBacon, I just promoted you to Admin. I apologize for missing you when I promoted a bunch of people when this wiki started. This was just an oversight. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a good afternoon, Titantalk 00:16, 14 March 2017 (CDT)

There is absolutely no reason to apologize... I've been honored to work on this wiki and I love working with everyone. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 00:29, 14 March 2017 (CDT)

Aspiring Wiki editor

Hello, I am an aspiring wiki editor, and I compliment you on all the work you have done getting the pictures for the wiki. I would like to know the methods you use to get the crew images, if you are willing to share. The Klingon Jedi (talk) 09:26, 9 June 2017 (CDT)

Do you use any special software to capture the images or is it just screenshots and careful excision of the pictures from the background using Photoshop CC? The Klingon Jedi (talk) 23:17, 9 June 2017 (CDT)

ALLIED COMMAND ELITE Page

Hey Otto, I just wanted you to know that I did click on the banner and I attempted to utilize the replace this file option which took me to the "upload file" page and when I attempted to upload the new picture I got an error message that it is the not file supported image or something. Please forgive me I've only done Wiki pages for a week now and the images section is the hardest part for me to figure out when it comes to managing it like what you messaged me with. I am doing my best but I could use any additional help FAQs that would assist so that you don't get agitated with my page. I have searched and I can't really find anything or the upload screen I just can't really grasp. With that said I would love to have the new banner on the fleet list wiki page but Titan had to do that for me because I couldn't figure it out. Thank you for being patient with me. MulezSti (talk) 11:53, 7 September 2017 (CDT)MulezSTi

No need to ask for forgiveness as there isn't any harm done, just wanted to point out that it is good practice to keep with the same image format (png, jpg etc etc) and upload a new version in the old image. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk

Otto, I tried to do exactly what you posted to my page and I can't figure it out. I went to my Fleet Admirals rank photo, clicked the picture and selected "update this photo" tab. It took me to the uploads screen and I searched for the file on my computer and selected it. I got a prompt/error saying that the file name is the exact same as what was already on wiki. I wasn't sure if that meant the filename that I can't change because I clicked update this file or it means the new file on my computer. I attempted to try it both ways with the same name and with a different name. When I clicked upload again, it reverted to the original file and not the new one. Please understand that I am absolutely trying to follow your guidance but after 30 minutes of it not working and it being late I just uploaded the new file but I thought as long as it was a different name it would be OK. So I don't know if you can tell from this message what I am doing wrong but maybe if you answer a few questions it would be a lot clearer for me.

1. Does the file I am uploading to replace, need to be the same file name as what is on wiki?
2. Do you know what conditions apply that could explain what I am doing wrong, that would yield the new file resulting in displaying the old file?

Trust me, I am not trying to create more work for you or the other admins, but photo management is not working out for me and it seems the hardest part of wiki for me to figure out. To me, the instructions are just not clear to me. But I will keep trying. I realized one of the photos is misspelled and I need to replace it. I will try to keep trying with that one. --MulezSti (talk) 15:49, 10 September 2017 (CDT)

MulezSti, I've uploaded a "test" file. Go to the image and make sure you are on the file page (File:Alt_Universe_door.jpg). When you are on the file click on "Upload a new version of this file" and upload a new jpg, any jpg image is fine it does not have to be the same image or size or name just don't change the name in the image box. So after clicking "Upload a new version of this file" you choose a new file under "Source file" and leave the "File description" alone. The only restrictions are that the new file has to be the same type as the old file (since you can't turn an apple into a pear) and it can not be larger than 2MB because we don't want to fill up our space. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 12:20, 11 September 2017 (CDT)

:
Upload test file

OK I followed your instructions and when I uploaded the picture of an airplane, the file still resorts to Picard opening the door to space. This is what I see on my computer after I attempted to replace the image. The new image is on top but you see just under that I have two of the same picture?
MulezSti (talk) 13:06, 11 September 2017 (CDT)

What you are seeing is cached. It takes a little for your browser to update to the new image but it is there. clear your browsers data and it should show the new image as it does for me Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 13:10, 11 September 2017 (CDT)

Upload test success

OK the image still looks the same to me. I have cleared the browser history and I can see the plane when I click on the image but below that still shows the two Picards. Also, in our talk page the original image you uploaded is still Picard and not the plane. I am using Safari on my Mac. Could it be because I am using Safari instead of a different browser? --MulezSti (talk) 14:47, 11 September 2017 (CDT)

I can't tell you if one browser takes longer than another because I don't really know. But you just have to assume that even when you clear the browser data it can take a little while before you see the change, it is just something you have to get used to. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 14:55, 11 September 2017 (CDT)

Good Day Otto, I am trying to link to all the weekly events icons but cant seem to find the Hybrid icon. I've searched everything i can think of in the file list to no avail. Can you tell me how the event list can display it but i cant find the actual file? What i am trying to do is create a top 50 event accomplishments without adding new images and linking. But i can't link just the event icons without linking the whole table, and i kinda want a different table. Also, has anyone uploaded the galaxy icon yet? I would like that icon as well. --MulezSti (talk) 23:02, 17 September 2017 (CDT)

Good Day Otto, I just wanted to drop a quick line and ask how I can change the photo for our fleet in the fleet list page? The last time you did it for us and I didn’t really see how it’s done. But this time I’m not replacing the photo because it is still used on my wiki. I just wanted to use a different one that is on my wiki page. Every time I click on the photo, it takes me to my page and don’t really see a way to change it. Thanks for your help. MulezSti (talk) 19:56, 10 October 2017 (CDT)

Yes, I know but I would like to change it to File:Fleet_ALLIED_COMMAND_ELITE_Title_image.png. Am I able to do that on the Fleet list page? And if so, how? MulezSti (talk) 20:45, 11 October 2017 (CDT)
In all honesty I'm growing extremely tired of you. I have now explained to you in detail how to UPDATE an image... So, you go to the image I posted right above and click on "Upload a new version of this file" and upload the image you want. AND yes, remember that it can take a few hours to update. I do not want to receive this same question any more or I will simply block you from making any alterations to the wiki. From now on READ when people try to explain something and if you are unable to comprehend the basic skills needed have somebody else in your fleet do it. I do not want to hear from you any more. Yup, I have it set to always display for now, will make it later tonight. I want to make sure everyone knows about it, and doesn't accidentally dismiss it and then not know about the new feature. Titantalk 16:24, 25 September 2017 (CDT)

Great thanks.... I wasn't completely sure if you did it intentionally so I figured I simply ask. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 16:27, 25 September 2017 (CDT)

The picture of the crew you added not showing up in the cadet challenges

Hi, I have added the "Lieutenant Commander Saru" to the cadet challenges and found out that his picture is not showing up in the list (Cadets)!
And in the process of finding out why, I noticed that two other crew: "Gaia Odo" and "Kathryn Janeway" have the same situation. If I understood it correctly, you have created their page and added their pictures, so, would you please help me solving the issue (broken picture links)?
Siavash.n1982 (talk) 20:05, 8 October 2017 (CDT)

The problem appears to be that we've tried to have more of a uniform way of naming images and are now using "Head" with a capital H instead of a lowercase h. This seems to be what causes the images from those three not to show up because that page is looking for their image with a lower case h. We'll have to adjust the code. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 11:33, 9 October 2017 (CDT)

Dear Otto,
Thanks for your explanation and solution. It seems that what is done for that page should also be done for all 3 cadet challenge pages:
A_Certain_Formality#Eligible_Crew
The_United_Federation#Eligible_Crew
Ex_Astris,_Scientia#Eligible_Crew

It might be wise to add the code to the rest of the cadet challenge pages in which 3-Star Crew is used -for possible future additions of a new 3-Star Crew- so that we do not face the same situation again.
Adv:_A_Certain_Formality
Adv:_United_Federation

Thank you in advance,
Siavash.n1982 (talk) 08:45, 10 October 2017 (CDT)

Signature

Hey, So a suggestion for your sig: Under preferences, mine shows: {{SUBST:Template:Signatures/Titan1}} And that page just uses {{SUBST:Template:Signatures/Titan}}.

This makes it show your template, rather then sub all wiki text. Titantalk 11:52, 9 October 2017 (CDT)

Hey Titan, I have exactly that in the preferences but somehow it puts in the whole code Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 11:59, 9 October 2017 (CDT)

Label images

Thanks for your advice. I am new to this. I will try to correctly label images in the future. My page is no longer up. Was it removed, and do I need to put it back together? --Gfashe (talk) 19:38, 31 October 2017 (CDT)

Hi Gfashe, no worries I understand that it needs some getting used to. I wasn't the Admin that deleted it but I think you probably did not make the correct page. Be sure to name your Fleet page: Fleet FleetnameName. For examples look here: Fleets/List. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 19:59, 31 October 2017 (CDT)

Fleet List

VonBacon, I've been keeping track of everybody's ranks for the past several events (minus the 10-26 event, oops) and have averaged the numbers to get an Event Ranking for the fleet. I've been playing around with it and think I have a good final version. What do you think? If you like it and think that it wouldn't hurt "moral" I'll add it to our fleet page.--Siguard (talk) 12:41, 6 November 2017 (CST)

I doubt it would ever "hurt" moral but I'm not sure what each rank really indicates. I think that when you attach ranks to fleet members it should pertain to more than just event ranking since like myself there are people that deliberately don't play or bail out of an event due to many reasons. I would use event participation/ranking as one aspect and I would use daily targets as a part being online and especially participating in the group dynamic and maybe forum and wiki participation all as pieces of what rank to give to who. I don't want people to feel like events is the only way to be valuable to the fleet. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 13:57, 6 November 2017 (CST)

Mmm, yeah, that's a good point. I just went with the event rankings because it's the easiest to get the data for. I have three days to pull the data and don't have to try to stay up till midnight to grab the data (in the case of daily targets). I'll think about it some more. --Siguard (talk) 08:58, 7 November 2017 (CST)

Hey, Wait. Since these event numbers are averages, if you don't play an event at all, it doesn't count against you and if you bail out of the event once, it wouldn't hurt your ranking much. I pretty much bailed on this event, but my overall score didn't change that much.--Siguard (talk) 11:30, 13 November 2017 (CST)

I bailed on this event once I had all Threshold Rewards I quit since it is useless to keep going. I now drop drastically when bailing vs keep playing the event. If I do not play half of the event I rank 4000-5000 while if I keep going I should be able to get towards 1k+. But have to say that since Voyages came out it has ruined events for me since now everyone has endless amounts of chrons etc.. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 11:51, 13 November 2017 (CST)

Dilemmas With No Crew

Otto... I notice you keep adding "x Honor/x Chrons" but NO crew to the Dilemmas page. I really would like to see a screenshot of your log after you make a Dilemma choice. In 477 Dilemmas, I have never seen one NOT give a crew member. There is a bug when you select a choice that many times only does the pop-up for the Honor and Chrons, but no crew. But when you continue and it shows your log of events, the crew is always listed there. If you ever come across the log not showing crew or an item along with the honor/chrons, please post a screenshot. Thanks Jello (talk) 21:08, 21 December 2017 (CST)

Hey Jello, thanks for that and I will keep an eye out for when it happens again and make sure to check before and after the log to see if it is indeed the graphical bug or really no crew given. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 12:34, 24 December 2017 (CST)

Voyage dilemmas - removed characters

Any specific reason why you removed Orion Slaver and Mirror Sisko from list of possible rewards of Dilemmas#Where_Earth_Meets_Sky? -- Hkmaly (talk) 11:49, 30 January 2018 (CST)

Yes, they are not Voyages specific only crew and technically any SuperRare crew can be obtained through Dilemmas. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 11:56, 30 January 2018 (CST)

Are you sure about that? Even with them not being Voyages specific, there may be some pattern in when they can appear. We can't say it's truly random unless we either decompile the code or get enough statistics data. -- Hkmaly (talk) 09:59, 4 February 2018 (CST)

If there is a pattern it would most likely have been seen by most of us now since 2/3/4 star characters drop at almost every dilemma. But to make it official I have reached out to DB and will let you know the answer when I have it. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 11:21, 4 February 2018 (CST)
So I heard back from DB and Non Voyages exclusive crew drop at random. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 12:18, 7 February 2018 (CST)

Lieutenant Commander Saru Frozen Image

Hi Otto, Can you make Lieutenant Commander Saru Frozen head available in the Category:Crew Frozen? No one knows if he is available or not. Just a suggestion. When I try to upload my version, it gives me a warning saying that it will rename the file that it already exists.

Thank you.

--Captain Spirk (talk) 11:34, 28 March 2018 (CDT)

Hey Spirk, I'm not completely sure what you mean since looking at your page I can see Saru's vaulted image. Sometimes the wiki is funky and it does not show certain images for a time for some people. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 11:48, 28 March 2018 (CDT)

I get ya. I can use your Saru image, but it's not showing up on the [[Category:Crew Frozen]] page. But if you can't fix it, don't worry, as it's showing up on my page. Maybe someone like Koba can fix it. Cheers for that.

Seems like he figured it out... also please sign your responses or comments on the wiki with ~~~~. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 14:41, 26 May 2018 (CDT)

To be frank with you I'm completely new to this and trying my best. However I'm not finding you very helpful or informative, you didn't answer me with what was wrong with the last attempt for example. The Upload File page gave no guidance as to how to name (in this instance) fleet logo pictures so if there is a place where I can find such information is appreciate a link so I can avoid any problems in future. Ziggy (talk) 17:48, 26 May 2018 (CDT)

when you go to your own talk page you can find my initial explanation on how to name images you upload for your fleet. Your last image upload had a name that was very similar to the first time you uploaded it. Bob who uploaded the last image does know the naming and as such you could have asked him instead of going by trial and error. This is a wiki and there is a very comprehensive help section on wiki and if you are unsure on how to do something or what the rules are you can ask within your own fleet or on the forums or contact any admin here on the wiki. We are more than fine helping out anyone wanting to add to the wiki. Otto Vonbacon ❯❯❯ Talk 18:32, 26 May 2018 (CDT)
