Diplomacy Both the holographic Maquis envisioned in Insurrection: Alpha and the Maquis under Teero Anaydis's influence were far more aggressive than their real selves. Recruit these versions to fight in the gladiator ring on planet 892-IV. Your away team was unable to overcome the influence of Teero Anaydis, but the Insurrection: Alpha holograms are scheduled for bouts in the gladiator ring. Both the Insurrection: Alpha holograms and Teero Anaydis's followers turned on your away team when approached, forcing them to flee.

Engineering The Maquis have recently become aware of the U.S.S. Discovery's spore drive technology, allowing it to instantly transport anywhere in the galaxy. They wonder if something similar could be developed for, say, a single combatant in a gladiator ring. After in-depth study of the tardigrade which unlocked the spore drive's potential, your away team has developed an implant that allows an individual to transport across the gladiator ring in an instant. Discover's spore drive is ancient history by now, and your away team is unable to puzzle out how it worked on an entire starship, let alone how to adapt it to a single person.

Research various injectables to simulate death. With the help of your medical staff, the Maquis now have the items necessary to simulate death–at least, as far as a tricorder is concerned. Your away team is unable to come up with the necessary injectables to simulate a Maquis death to a medical tricorder, let alone a physical exam.

The Maquis are used to stealthy tactics, hiding in the Badlands their biggest example. Analyze the gladiator ring to determine how those same tactics might help lead them to victory. Thanks to your away team, the Maquis now know of some blind spots in the gladiator ring, where they can use the sun and a shield to their advantage. Your away team stares at the circular gladiator ring in befuddlement, and is unable to offer any useful tips to the Maquis.

Thomas Riker once impersonated William Riker to help the Maquis. If other Starfleet officers were rumored to have joined the Maquis, the distraction could prove a valuable asset against an opponent. Help other Maquis impersonate Starfleet officers. The opposing factions are whispering worriedly to themselves about all the recent Starfleet defections to the Maquis. Your away team's deception has worked. The opposing factions are not fooled, and laugh at your away team's attempts to install impersonators of Starfleet officers among the Maquis.

Cal Hudson resigned from Starfleet and joined the Maquis over the Federation-Cardassian Treaty of 2370. If convinced that the Federation was about to sign an even more objectionable document, he might fight even more fiercely for the dilithium. Your away team's treaty is a masterful fake, and Cal Hudson is outraged at what he sees as a Cardassian takeover of the Federation. He vows to win that dilithium for the Maquis. Cal Hudson is no fool. He sees many red flags in the fake treaty your away team drafts, and dismisses it as a fake. He won't be manipulated.

Cardassian authorities see the potential political points to be gained if Eddington is handily defeated in the gladiator ring, and agree to release him, just this once. Even Cardassian authorities balk at the notion of releasing an unstable man to fight for his life, and your away team's request is refused.

Captain Benjamin Maxwell threw away his Starfleet career for a shot at revenge against the Cardassians, a sentiment the Maquis can appreciate. Convince him to join the Maquis in earnest, and fight in the gladiator ring. When told he'd get the chance to fight actual Cardassians one on one, to the death, Captain Maxwell leapt at the chance to join the Maquis on planet 892-IV. Unfortunately, Captain Maxwell reunited with his lost family (originally killed by the Cardassians) before your away team reached him, and refuses to leave them for anything.

Diplomacy The gladiator ring of ancient Rome was more about entertainment than actual battle prowess. The Maquis want to practice several flashy moves in the hopes that they can win bouts through sheer style, if not ability. After studying several twentieth and twentieth-century films with your away team, the Maquis are confident that they can fake a much better performance in the gladiator ring. The Maquis prove hopeless, constantly dropping or misfiring their weapons, tripping over their own feet, or making strange faces. Acting, it seems, is harder than it looks.

Medicine The Bajoran-turned-Maquis-turned-Cardassian spy Seska can speak to the effectiveness of a disguise. If the Maquis want to win, she suggests they make their opponent think they're someone else. After all, every strategy is best in a certain context. After lengthy stays in sickbay, several Maquis are now masquerading as members of other species, causing their opponents to rethink their strategies. The procedures are just too risky, and several Maquis get cold feet or balk at Seska's suggestion. They will face opponents as they are, whatever their odds.

In the interests of honor and fairness, provide these weapons to their opponents, and instruct them in their use. Thanks to your away team, all combatants awaiting a round in 892-IV's gladiator ring are versed in Klingon weaponry. The Klingons will be fighting alongside Starfleet and the Federation, yet the two organizations have very different ideas of what honor means. Work with the Klingon combatants to come to a temporary accord. It has been a challenging process, but with your away team acting as mediators, the Klingons have agreed to relax their concept of honor temporarily to match the Federation's–but only for this contest. The Klingons refuse to budge, insisting that honor is not a concept that can be negotiated or distilled at will. Either the Federation will fight honorably, or the Klingons will not fight at all.

The gladiator rings of Earth's ancient Roman Empire were more about entertainment than actual battle prowess. But Klingons do not perform for the entertainment of others. Downplay this aspect, and reframe the gladiator ring in an honorable light. After speaking with your away team, the Klingons dismiss the entertainment aspect of the gladiator ring as an unintended result of an otherwise honorable pursuit. The Klingons are not fooled by your away team's spin. They sneer at the gladiator ring as beneath them, and some talk of abandoning this partnership altogether, no matter the potential prize.
